Thursday: We read “Fear” by Ciaran Carson, analyzed its meter and rhyme scheme, and wrote a poem in a similar style (a sonnet–14 lines with meter and rhyme) based on either our own fears or the fears of a fictional character.
Friday: We read “A Barred Owl” by Richard Wilbur and discussed the importance of word choice in portraying something as either fearful or nonthreatening. We then did an imitation of an excerpt from the story, “The Circus” by Katherine Anne Porter to focus on choosing words that convey the fearful person’s point of view.
Homework: Please complete the writing assignments if you were not able to do so during class. Then, keep up with your reading.
